OHIO THOROUGHBRED BREEDERS & OWNERS MIXED SALE SET FOR SUNDAY, OCTOBER 20 1:30 P.M. MAJESTIC FARM, BATAVIA, OH.
The 2019 Ohio Mixed Sale will take place on Sunday, October 20 at Majestic Farm in Batavia, Ohio. Horses are allowed on the grounds Saturday and the sale will begin Sunday at 1:30. “It appears Ohio is a victim of it’s own success, at least as far as the sale is concerned,” said O.T.B.O. Executive Director John Engelhardt. “The last two years we had over 100 entered in the sale this year we had 42. More and more breeders are keeping their Ohio foals to race since the money is so good right now. They don’t just want to raise horses for the breeder and stallion awards.”
In the sale there are 13 yearlings, 11 weanlings, 2 two-year-olds, 4 broodmares and 4 horses of racing age. Ohio stallion of the year Mobil and Tapit’s stakes winning son Tidal Volume each have four of their progeny in the sale. The venue got a boost recently when $6,500 sales graduate Edge of Night captured the $75,000 Emerald Necklace Stakes at Thistledown. Never worse than second in five career starts she has current earnings of $90,000 and is entered in the $150,000 John W. Galbreath Stakes at Mahoning Valley on October 26. “We also had the 1-2 finishers in last year’s Glacial Princess Stakes,” said Engelhardt. “A good one can come from anywhere, and anywhere can be Majestic Farm in Batavia on a sunny Sunday.”
